Last meal with Cheryl

Cheryl, who is my guru at my ex workplace, will be leaving Malaysia for Australia in a few days. We decided to have a farewell dinner with her at the infamous Look Out Point.

Now, why did I say that Look Out Point is ‘infamous’? Two reasons. Firstly, the food here sucks eggs and 9 out of 10 people would agree that it totally isn’t worth what you’re paying for. Secondly, if this is your first time going up, unless you live around Pandan Indah or have been to this place before, it is near impossible to arrive without getting lost. But hey, these two points aside, we’re here for the environment as well as magnificent view of KL city at night. What better way to have a nice cosy dinner than to have it with several close colleagues. We aren’t exactly colleagues anymore (I know, I’m he odd one here), but we do still constantly keep in touch.

Anyway, talk aside, here are both the lovely Cheryl and Jane (aka Ah Ngor) looking good and attractive as always.

And here we have Chze Siang (aka Lim Beh) in his paparazzi mode. Check out his huge flash. That thing weighs almost as much as the camera. Photography is definitely a rich man’s game. The small, white, plastic thingy alone cost him RM50.

Unfortunately Cheryl had a bad cough and she settled for something light (read: bread and salad). Here she is, the star of the night.

As I mentioned earlier, this place has a reputation for serving sucky food. Let’s look at the damage done. I ordered a cheese chicken chop and chicken mushroom soup. Both were actually acceptable. In fact, I finished all of my food and I thought they were pretty good. FYI, we ate at the middle restaurant called 加油站. I was half expecting the bill to be sky high, but it came out quite reasonable. Around RM25 per head. Not too bad eh?

Much to our disappointment, halfway during our meal, we noticed that the Twin Tower lights were getting dimmer. I’m not sure what why it was so, but we were guessing that electricity ain’t cheap these days, and therefore somebody had to pull some plugs on the tower.

Dim towers aside, it was a very enjoyable night and we did a lot of chatting, just like the good old days. My best wishes to Cheryl in her future undertakings and hope we could meet up again one fine day. Goodbye Chui Yun, do keep in touch.

UPDATES ON 9 DECEMBER 2008:

Chze Siang aka. Lim Beh was kind to send some of the pictures he took using his camera. And he's sending it all the ay from Taiwan! It would be a crime not to post it up. Lets have a look at the imports, shall we?

Obviously, we would want to leave our mark at Look Out Point. But carving names, sticking gum under tables and vandalizing isn't something we do. So we decided to write our names in thin air using only our handphones. Voila!

In case you are wondering what the picture below represents, it's not an ice cream. Far from it in fact...

Pretty creative stuff from Lim Beh huh? Now this is what I call guilt-free-vandalism.

Ticket to Mulu!

As some of my friends might know, I will be flying to Miri in October. Too add some spice into my trip, I'll be flying to Mulu as well to roam the famous caves there. Apparently the caves are big enough to fit several jumbo jets. Plus from what I've heard, there are more than a million bats flying in and out everyday. A million bats... I'm gonna bring my trustee umbrella. I do not fancy myself being covered in bat dung.

Flying from Miri to Mulu ain't cheap, costing almost as much as the trip from KL to Miri. Anyway, since I'm already in Sarawak, might as well catch a flight to Mulu. This whole trip will drain my wallet dry. With the same amount, I could probably fly to Hong Kong and spend a week there (assuming I stay in a cheap bacpacker's lodge of course). But hey, shouldn't a Malaysian visit his own country before others?

I'll be flying with a good ol' friend of mine, Danny. He is a native Mirian, and I'm gonna bug him to show me where I can procure alcohol and drink myself till I fall drunk in the middle of the road.

Gig at George's

Today, several of my colleagues and I met up at George's place to have a guitar gig. Hin Fai, Evelyn and myself arrived at George's at around 12pm and we headed out to Bangsar for lunch. Unfortunately, Hin Fai had an emergency and had to leave after lunch. So it was George, Evelyn and myself left.

We started out by fixing Evelyn's guitar. George made a new saddle for her out of mammoth bones. For the record, she is using a Yamaha F330, which was bought 10++ years ago. Off goes the old saddle, in goes the new bone saddle and spanking Elixir strings. We played Bryan Adam's Everything I Do, and man, it sounds good with more than 1 guitar playing.

We also had an opportunity to try George's guitars. He has a Taylor all Koa guitar, and a Taylor Presentation Series. The Koa guitar itself cost more than RM10k brand new, and the presentation series is > RM20k. Man, this is really my day. Rarely I would have the opportunity to play such beautiful guitars.

This is the all Koa guitar. I thought that this guitar really suits Evelyn. It's a small bodied guitar, and she looks good (and sexy) playing it.

Now this is the crown jewel of them all. A Taylor presentation series with Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Now for the uninformed, Brazilian Rosewood is the ultimate tonewood for guitars. It's almost close to extinction, and it cost a bomb! Many guitar makers will only use Brazilian Rosewood to make their best guitars. Man, I wished I had one of these. A beautiful guitar. Absolutely a stunner.

Anyway, we left at around 4:30 pm after fixing Evelyn's guitar. If George is reading this (hahaha, but I doubt he knows about this site), I would like to thank him for hosting our guitar meet up. PS:- He has a very beautiful Siberian dog, Tasha :)
